Orthoceras and ammonites come from the Fossil Valley of Erfoud in Morocco, they are generally used to make table decorations and furnishings.
The marine fossils of the Cretaceous can be bought at a good price and are a fundamental part of the local economy. 70% of the inhabitants of the area live thanks to activities related to the exploitation of fossils.
This priceless heritage is in danger of disappearing, due to intensive exploitation, which is why the government of Morocco and Unesco have made a series of laws and regulations to limit the export and marketing without rules of these assets.
Obviously, as soon as restrictions have been placed, the black market has exploded, the fossil valley is in danger. Workers often work in makeshift conditions ignoring the most basic rules of workplace safety.
Orthoceras e ammoniti provengono dalla Valle dei Fossili di Erfoud in Marocco, vengono utilizzati in genere per realizzare decorazioni di tavoli e arredamenti.
I fossili marini del Cretaceo si possono comperare a buon prezzo e sono una parte fondamentale dell’economia locale. Il 70% degli abitanti della zona vive grazie ad attività legate allo sfruttamento dei fossili.
Questo inestimabile patrimonio rischia di sparire, per lo sfruttamento intensivo, per questo il governo del Marocco e l’Unesco hanno fatto una serie di leggi e normative per limitare l’esportazione e la commercializzazione senza regole di questi beni.
Ovviamente appena sono state poste delle limitazioni il mercato nero è esploso, la valle dei fossili è in pericolo. I lavoratori di fossili di Erfoud spesso lavorano in condizioni di fortuna ignorando le regole più elementari di sicurezza sul lavoro.
