Lives tied to a rope
Thanks to the Germans, Tanzania became one of the world's largest producers of Sisal, and in ' 92 it was the third largest producer. After a period of neglect the Tanzanian Government has taken the situation in hand, promising "low-energy machines" but actually some factories are still very far for the resolution of the problem. The Sisal (the 2009 was the year of natural fibres) is used to produce ropes, baskets, rugs. Even the waste of the ropes might get a new business.
Vite legate ad un corda
Con i tedeschi la Tanzania diventò uno dei maggiori produttori al mondo di sisal, tanto che nel ’92 era il terzo produttore mondiale. Dopo un periodo di disinteresse il governo tanzaniano ha ripreso in mano la situazione promettendo “macchinari a basso consumo energetico” ma in alcune fabbriche è una realtà ancora molto lontana.
La sisal (il 2009 è stato l’anno delle fibre naturali) serve per produrre corde, cesti, tappeti. Anche gli scarti potrebbero far decollare un nuovo business.
