Antonio Gibotta: Telling the World with Discretion
From the Family Workshop to the Paths of the World: A Life Dedicated to the Gaze
Man, History and Photography as a Means of Understanding
Antonio Gibotta (born ’88) grew up watching his father’s work, a professional photographer who passed on to him not only the technical secrets, but above all respect for the image. What had started as a family interest soon turned into a life choice, leading him to travel between Italy and abroad to document realities different from his own. With training as a Master of Art and experience that has led him to exhibit in numerous countries, Antonio has over time sought to build his own language, always keeping people and the social themes that mark our present at the center.
A Path of Experience and Commitment
Roots and Training: After graduating in Advertising Graphic Art and Photography, he began building his professional identity by combining the precision of the craft with a personal sensitivity for reportage.
Growth in Reportage: His dedication has been recognized by various trade associations, leading him to obtain qualifications such as “Master QEP” and awards in international contexts such as the Prix de la Photographie Paris and the World Press Photo.
Stories of Humanity: He has sought to portray current events through projects ranging from classic photojournalism to more intimate narratives, as demonstrated by his participation in the LUMIX Festival in Germany or his recognition at the Picture of the Year International (POY).
Attention to Detail: His work has been noted for its attention to detail, leading publications such as National Geographic to include his shots in collective publications and historic companies in the sector to collaborate with him on the rendering of photographic materials.
An Empathetic Look at Reality
Antonio Gibotta’s work seeks to strike a balance between the harshness of news reporting and the delicacy of the moment. Whether documenting everyday life or complex social situations, the goal is to achieve a clean image, capable of conveying a sincere feeling without being spectacular at all costs. For him, reportage is a way to explore the depth of the human soul, seeking to honestly convey what he observes during his travels.
A Commitment that Continues
From his early experiences in national competitions to becoming a finalist for the W. Eugene Smith Grant, Antonio’s journey remains that of a photographer who feels, above all, a witness. Every recognition received is seen as encouragement to continue his research, with the awareness that photography is an infinite journey toward understanding others and the reality that surrounds us.
