Seville is not just a city, it is a state of mind consumed between the scent of orange blossom and the sound of footsteps on cobblestones. “Seville” is a deep visual investigation exploring the layering of civilizations that made this land unique in the world. Through my lens, I sought to document the contrast between the majesty of Mudéjar architecture and the simplicity of life in the barrios. I wanted to tell the story of a city that lives every moment intensely, turning every shot into a celebration of light, color, and the cultural resilience of a people proud of their roots.
The Aesthetics of the Arabesque: Light and Shadow in History: The photographic research focuses on the intricate details of the Alcázar and the Cathedral. I worked with the plays of light filtering through the grilles and tiles (azulejos), seeking to capture the perfect geometry and mysticism of the spaces. Every shot seeks to convey the historical stratification of Seville, where brick, ceramic, and water blend together to create a visual harmony that speaks of a glorious past still present today.
The Reportage of Everyday Life: The Beating Heart of Triana: In this story, the camera crosses the Guadalquivir to immerse itself in the popular soul of Triana and the historic neighborhoods. I documented the conviviality of the tascas, the patient work of the ceramic artisans, and the natural elegance of the streets at midday. This is not just urban photography, but an anthropological document on Andalusian sociality. Every image testifies to a way of life made of encounters, glances, and a deep connection with public space.
The Power of the Single Shot: Crystallizing the Flamenco of Life: Entrusting the narrative exclusively to still photography, I wanted to isolate the emotional tension that fills the air. Without the aid of video or sound, every image forces the observer to “feel” the heat of the Andalusian sun and the vibration of a culture that manifests itself in bearing and gesture. The purity of the photographic language allows the instant when the city lights up with gold at sunset to be captured, turning the reportage into a sensory journey between passion and memory.
Creating this project in Seville meant letting myself be guided by the rhythm of the city, between solemnity and festivity. This photographic story stems from the need to offer an honest testimony to a metropolis that knows how to be both monumental and intimate at the same time. My commitment was to place technique at the service of a visceral narrative, celebrating the magnificence of history as much as the grace of its people: the true, inexhaustible driving force of this Seville, suspended between myth and reality.
