India is a universe that moves at two speeds: the eternal speed of its marble monuments and the frenetic speed of its street life. “India” is a deep visual investigation that relates the architectural perfection of symbols like the Taj Mahal to the vital imperfection of everyday Indian life. Through my lens, I sought to document how the sacredness of history and the urgency of daily life are not separate worlds, but two faces of the same coin. I wanted to tell the story of a country where monumental beauty serves as a still backdrop to the unstoppable flow of humanity, turning every shot into a bridge between dream and reality.
The Aesthetics of the Eternal: Light on Marble: The photographic research dedicated to iconic sites, such as the Taj Mahal, focuses on the pursuit of the absolute. I worked with the mists of dawn and the reflections in the water to capture the age-old harmony of this architecture. Every shot seeks to convey the solemnity of a stone that seems to become spirit, isolating the monument from the surrounding chaos to celebrate its formal purity. Light here becomes a tool of contemplation, turning the tourist icon into a visual document on humanity’s pursuit of perfection.
The Reportage of Everyday Life: A Typical Indian Day: In contrasto con la staticità dei monumenti, la macchina fotografica si immerge nel battito accelerato della strada. Ho documentato i gesti ordinari che compongono la giornata tipo: il rito del tè al mattino, il lavoro degli artigiani, il commercio vibrante dei mercati e la spiritualità diffusa in ogni angolo. The Power of the Single Shot: Crystallizing Contrast: Entrusting the narrative exclusively to still photography, I wanted to isolate the points of contact between these two worlds. Without the aid of video or sound, every image forces the observer to reflect on the scale of time: the age-old time of the domes and the fleeting time of a smile or a quick step through an alley. The purity of the photographic language allows the instant in which the sacred meets the profane to be captured, transforming India into a visual experience that questions our sense of beauty and permanence.
Creating this project meant continually oscillating between wonder and testimony. This photographic story stems from the need to offer an honest vision of India, where the Taj Mahal does not overshadow the dignity of the street vendor, but shares its light. My commitment was to place technique at the service of a visceral story, celebrating the magnificence of architecture as much as the strength of the human being: the true, tireless protagonist of this endless open-air spectacle.
